Spurge
(Max Licher, hosted by SEINet)With seeds easily spread by wildlife and a fast growth cycle, spurges are one of the more difficult weeds to control within landscaped areas and lawns in southern Arizona. These plants usually grow low to the ground, love sunlight, and produce a white, milky sap when broken. In certain individuals, this sap can cause a reaction when applied to the skin, so it's best to avoid pulling or handling spurge without gloves. Taking preventative measures when planting new vegetation, including grasses, will help to avoid spurge overgrowth in the future. Pre- and post-emergents are useful in areas affected with spurge overgrowth.
